PURPOSE OF POSITION: Performs a variety of professional, technical and administrative work in the development and coordination of a Community Development Code Compliance program. The Code Compliance program includes enforcement of conditions of approval for all land-use actions, follow-up on building code violations, overgrown vegetation abatement, nuisances, vision clearance, sign permits and compliance and other sections of the Redmond Municipal Code. Responsibilities include proactive property inspection and code enforcement, encouraging good neighbor practices to achieve sustainable compliance through cooperation and support, utilizing legal enforcement when necessary. This description covers the most significant essential and auxiliary duties performed but does not include other occasional work which may be similar, related to, or logical assignment to the position. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Enforces all applicable building and property maintenance codes relating to health, safety, welfare, construction, and community preservation; resolves complex and sensitive code violation issues, using tact and diplomacy to encourage voluntary compliance.Receives complaints of code violations from the public, City staff, and others. Performs on-site inspection of property and construction, investigates, and conducts research to determine compliance with codes and locate unlicensed activities.Operates a motor vehicle regularly to attend meetings, trainings, inspections, and other situations when necessary.Enters case information into computer tracking system and prepares inspection reports.Evaluates information pertaining to applicable codes and ordinances and recommends appropriate course of action.Contacts responsible parties and prepares compliance letters; issues notices and citations; initiates other corrective action; performs follow-up to ensure compliance.Maintains and updates computerized record of inspection activity; maintains case files and calendar system to track case activity; maintains time accounting records for purposes of cost recovery.Prepares periodic activity reports for the department and City Council.Responds to inquiries from the public, City staff, and others, interpreting and explaining City codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures pertaining to code compliance.Prepares case information for legal proceedings; may act as City representative and present evidence.Develops educational material and public awareness campaigns for the Code Compliance Program; prepares press releases as directed.Serves as a member of various City committees as assigned.Assists other staff in the performance of their duties as assigned.Performs related work as required.Represents the City of Redmond and Community Development Department by responding to the public, citizens, its employees and others in a prompt, professional and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general direction of the Planning Director and/or Deputy City Manager who holds the employee accountable for achieving department goals and objectives.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is not a supervisory position. Employee may assist in direction, guidance or training in operational procedures to other employees.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
