NOON SUPERVISOR
Job Description
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to help establish and maintain a safe, calm and pleasant atmosphere on the school grounds and in the cafeteria; to enable students to enjoy group interaction and physical exercise; and to ensure students behave properly and maintain standards of good citizenship.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervises students at playtime and lunchtime and maintains a safe and harmonious atmosphere on the school grounds and cafeteria; supervises students in the hallways, eating areas, rest rooms and all athletic areas of the campus; redirects inappropriate playground behavior; directs movement of groups to and from the playground/cafeteria; organizes students into orderly lines for purchasing food and directs them to assigned tables; helps students develop and observe proper dining habits; assists younger students with use of utensils, when needed; circulates among the tables at mealtime to help children and resolve problems; may wipe table tops between lunch periods; may organize group games and activities; assumes responsibility for playground equipment; alerts administrators and office of any major incidents or problem situations; sends students to the principal or attending teacher in the event of any incident involving physical confrontation; assists students with conflict resolution; directs visitors to the office; takes part in appropriate in-service training programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to:
Insure safety of children during activities; work with children constructively; maintain objectivity and fairness in helping students resolve problems; be outdoors and remain on feet for extended periods of time; maintain positive student behavior; deal with students of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Knowledge of:
Behavior modification strategies; conflict resolution techniques; young people’s interests and motivations; the English language.
EXPERIENCE
Some experience working with young people preferred.
EDUCATION
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade preferred.
RESPONSIBLE TO
Is directly responsible to the Principal.
