Description:
RedTown Technical Services, LLC has a full-time opening for a Meteorologist at the U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll (USAG-KA) Reagan Test Site (RTS) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. This position requires relocation to Kwajalein Island.
This is an unaccompanied, single-status position. The IRS considers Kwajalein overseas employment, and employees may receive significant tax benefits. Benefits of a single status position on Kwaj include:
- No US federal or state taxes (local income taxes are 5% Marshall Islands per year)

Kwajalein Island is similar to a small town in the US, but in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. For example, although there are medical and dental facilities, they are not comprehensive. Kwajalein Island has a population of about 1500 people, with a broad range of activities available ranging from water sports such as scuba diving, sailing, fishing, soccer, softball, and other various local clubs and organizations. All candidates must be in good enough physical condition such as to not require routine, extensive medical treatment. All candidates must pass drug testing and a physical prior to deployment to Kwaj. All candidates must obtain an interim security clearance prior to deployment to Kwaj.
This position is located at the Kwajalein Weather Station.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide weather forecasts for the Kwajalein Atoll region using available datasets such as satellite, weather radar, surface observations, and NWP outputs.
- Issues weather warnings, watches, and advisories.
- Provide meteorological support for missions, including writing post-mission analyses reports.
- Help develop and integrate new processes and procedures.
Qualifications/Education Requirements
- BS in Meteorology or closely related major with a minimum of two years of professional meteorological experience.
- Must be U.S citizen.
- Experience with Windows OS and Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Desired Qualifications
- MS in Meteorology or closely related major with a minimum of two years of professional meteorological experience.
- Experience in tropical meteorology and forecasting.
- Experience with Doppler and dual-polarization weather radar data.
- Experience with weather satellite interpretation.
- Experience with Linux OS.
- Computer programming experience (Python, C, scripting, etc.).
- Possession of a current security clearance.
Salary Range
- $26-$33 per hour
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The workload will vary and will be stressful at times. The candidate will be expected to sit at a computer/desk for long periods of time. Kwaj has a tropical climate with wet and dry seasons with little daily temperature variation.
