Description:
RedTown Technical Services, LLC has an opening for a meteorologist at the Reagan Missile Defense Test Site (RTS) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands in the central tropical Pacific. This position focuses on operational weather forecasting and observation, requires relocation to Kwajalein Island and rotating shift work, including weekends and holidays. All candidates must be in good physical condition such as to not require routine, extensive medical treatment.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills. Kwajalein is considered overseas employment by the IRS, and those employed there receive significant tax benefits. This is a single-status, unaccompanied position. Meals and housing are provided to all single-status employees. Benefits include company-paid medical, dental, and vision. The company also pays for Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and a Group Term Life and AD&D policy. Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays are included. Relocation to Kwajalein and storage of personal belongings is paid per company policy.
The usual, small-town mix of retail and recreation exists on Kwajalein. This includes stores, theaters, a library, a bowling alley, a snack bar, and a bar. In addition, the island is equipped to take full advantage of golfing, biking, organized softball and soccer leagues, and superb fishing, diving, sailing, and boating opportunities of the near-equatorial ocean. The island boasts a yacht club, fishing club, diving club, running club, and rental outlet for boats and equipment. The island population numbers around 1200 divided near equally between single and family individuals.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide weather forecasts for the Kwajalein Atoll region using available datasets such as satellite, weather radar, surface observations, and NWP outputs.
- Issues weather warnings, watches, and advisories.
- Provide meteorological support for missions including writing post-mission analyses reports.
- Help develop and integrate new processes and procedures.
Qualifications/Education Requirements
- MS or BS in Meteorology or closely related major with a minimum of two years professional meteorological experience.
- Must be U.S citizen.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must be in good physical condition such as to not require routine, extensive medical treatment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Doppler and dual-polarized weather radar and satellite interpretation.
- Familiarity with Linux OS and Windows.
- Computer programming experience (Python, C, scripting, etc.).
- Possession of a current security clearance.
Physical and Mental Requirements
The workload will vary and may be stressful at times. The candidate may be expected to sit at a computer/desk for long periods of time. May also be required to frequently stand and/or walk. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to the weather elements on a regular basis and may be required to climb stairs.
