- Overnight/Graveyard - Stay Awake Shifts: $1.00 per hour
Overview:
Emergency Support Staff (ESS) will be available to provide around the clock emergency assistance to the Mendocino County HHSA/Family & Children's Services (FCS) Social Worker, assist in providing supervision and care for foster youth who are in “transition” from one placement to other or youth who are detained by Mendocino County HHSA Family & Children's Services and social worker is looking for placement.
Key Responsibilities:
- ESS staff will assist in de-escalating youth by using crisis communication, collaborative problem solving and motivational interviewing. ESS staff will use appropriate engagement techniques to help the youth use coping skills or prepare for the anticipated transition.
- Assess the youth for immediate needs including medical, food and clothing.
- Obtain immediate needs for the youth which may include food, clothing. diapers/formula, personal hygiene items, etc.
- Prepare the youth for foster care, such as explaining what a resource home is based on the youth's age/cognitive ability.
- Obtain information from the youth that may support the youth in their transition to foster care such as possessions which are important to them, ways in which they are comforted/soothed, bedtimes, meal preferences, etc.
Education and/or Experience:
- Level I: An individual who has less than two (2) years of FTE experience in mental health related field providing direct mental health services.
- Level II: An individual who has at least two (2) years but less than four years of FTE experience in a mental health related field providing direct mental health services.
- Level III: An individual who has at least four (4) years of full-time/equivalent (FTE) experience in a mental health related field proving direct mental health services. Up to two (2) years of the four (4) years of experience can be s substituted by years of education * in a mental health-related field or by completion of the County Core Skills Training. There are a minimum requirement of two (2) years of actual work experience.
*The education requirement must be a minimum of two (2) years of education (60 semester or 90 quarter units) with a minimum of 12 semesters (18 quarter) units in mental health-related subject areas such as child development, social work, human behavior, rehabilitation, psychology, or alcohol and drug counseling.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have at least two years driving experience and be able to drive. This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes. Employees must maintain liability insurance that meets or exceeds the state’s requirements.
- Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and a clean DMV printout (no more than 3 points).
- Must pass a clear background check with DOJ, CACI, FBI, CCL.
- CPR and First Aid Certified.
- TB Exam and Physical at the time of employment
- This position may work within ALL other agency programs, consistent with their scope of practice, on a as needed basis. In addition, may require occasional flexible work schedule to meet the individualized needs of each client. Employees with direct responsibility for children who are under 18 years of age or who are not emancipated from the foster care system and who, in either case, are receiving 24 hour residential care, and employees of 24 hour residential care facilities for the elderly, blind or developmentally disabled individuals may be required to work on-duty meal periods without penalty when necessary to meet regulatory or approved program standards and one of the following two conditions is met:
- The residential care employees eats with residents during residents' meals and the employer provides the same meal at no charge to the employee; or
- An employee, except for the night shift, may exercise the right to have an off-duty meal period upon 30 days' notice to the employer for each instance where an off-duty meal is desired, provided that, there shall be no more than one off-duty meal period every two weeks.
Driving Requirement:
This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes and on-call rotation.
Other Requirements:
- Driving is a required function of this position. Employees must use a personal vehicle that meet all agency requirements, including maintaining liability insurance that meets or exceeds state requirements.
- Employees are responsible for ensuring the timely renewal of their vehicle insurance policies and providing updated documentation to the agency to remain in good standing and compliant with position requirements.
Training Provided:
- RCS provides an in-depth onboarding and training orientation, which includes CPR/First Aid, Crisis Communication/Pro-ACT, Trauma-Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Collaborative Problem Solving, introductions to all RCS departments, and other valuable trainings.
