Position Summary
RWT Horizons is the strategic venture investment arm of Redwood Trust, Inc. (NYSE: RWT), a publicly traded platform with a deep permanent capital base and 30 years of investment and operating expertise. RWT Horizons invests in seed and early-stage companies driving innovation and disruption across the lending and real estate sectors. Investments made through RWT Horizons are designed to support companies that have a nexus to Redwood's businesses, including its residential and business-purpose lending platforms.
Reporting directly to the SVP, Investments, this role will focus primarily on providing financial and operational support for our recent investment in a newly created homebuilder finance platform. In addition, the Operations Associate will have the opportunity to work with other RWT Horizons portfolio companies and new investment transactions. This position provides the opportunity to work within an innovative and growing strategic venture investment platform under the umbrella of a tenured and respected firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with RWT Horizons team members to develop operational and financial processes as well as oversight and reporting requirements related to our recent homebuilder finance platform
- Directly interface with homebuilder finance platform management to coordinate loan funding requests and reporting needs
- Interact directly with other Redwood Trust functional groups (Accounting, Treasury, Capital Markets, etc.) to coordinate funding, reporting and other activities
- Develop presentations, financial models and other work products necessary to track and analyze RWT Horizons portfolio investments
- Support RWT Horizons portfolio companies where appropriate
- Contribute to RWT Horizons portfolio reviews and benchmarking
- Ad-Hoc projects and other operational activities as needed
Qualifications
- 5 years of relevant work experience in commercial real estate loan underwriting or accounting. Highly prefer experience in homebuilder finance, construction funding or related areas. Alternative backgrounds will be considered for candidates with demonstrated analytical ability and experience
- Strong attention to detail and communication/collaboration skills to serve as a bridge between internal teams and portfolio company management teams
- Basic knowledge of how loan transactions are funded, accounted for and how funds flow ensuring that appropriate accounting codes, entities, and bank accounts are utilized
- Experience with detailed financial modeling including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements required.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
- Proficient in MS Office tools
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully across multiple projects in a high-performance, collaborative environment
- Ability and maturity to engage and work with senior executives
- Must have bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting, Finance or other analytical disciplines
A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this role is $150,000 - $175,000 annually. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
