Position Summary
The role will be focused on the risk management, trading and the valuation side of the business, including derivatives trading to hedge mortgage assets, loan and security pricing, performance and risk reporting, and forecasting. The roll will include trading interest rate derivatives to hedge risk across mortgage pipelines, RMBS and servicing portfolios, pricing assets, analyzing large data sets, analyzing market trends and research, and preparing reports and presentations. The individual needs to have experience trading interest rate derivatives including futures, swaptions, TBA mortgage futures and swaps. The individual also needs to have experience pricing loans, RMBS and servicing assets. This individual must be able to participate in the development of efficient analysis and clearly communicate complex analysis relating to risk management and valuation. The ideal candidate will have applicable experience, a strong professional track record, and broad knowledge of capital markets and real estate finance. Strong analytic and technical skills required.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Trade derivatives including futures, swaptions, TBAs and swaps to protect mortgage pipelines, RMBS portfolios and servicing portfolios from interest rate risk
- Price mortgages and mortgage pipelines based on market inputs and measure their interest rate risk
- Price RMBS including senior, subordinate, IO, and servicing-backed bonds based on market inputs and measure their rate risk
- Develop and maintain models and reports to enhance Redwood’s risk management and valuation decisions
- Analyze large sets of loan, derivative and capital markets data. This includes strong statistical analysis and strong calculus (rates of change, i.e. duration, convexity and option Greeks)
- Conduct quantitative market research and analyze economic and market trends
- Learn processes and systems associated with pipeline management and RMBS portfolio management
- Create reports and analysis on an ad hoc basis, as required
- Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree - preferably in math, engineering, computer science, finance or similar major - with a track record of strong academic performance; MBA or CFA preferred
- 10 years of experience in RMBS, interest rate risk hedging, and managing mortgage pipelines, with a focus on non-agency jumbo loans
- Expertise in fixed income markets, derivatives, and risk management tools
- Strong quantitative skills and demonstrated analytical ability
- Technologically savvy, with the ability to work in varied systems; advanced Excel skills required
- Proficiency with Outlook/Word/PowerPoint/SQL
- Experience with mortgage pipeline management or other mortgage-related processing systems a plus
- Strong cross functional and communication skills, both written and oral
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and manage workload independently
- Must be organized, detailed-oriented, and maintain reliable follow-through
- Self-managed and flexible; able to work well independently and within a small team
A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this role is $220k - 280k annually. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
