Position Summary
The VP, Whole Loan Trader is a key member of the Redwood Residential Acquisition Corp. (“RRAC”) capital markets team and plays a central role in buying and selling residential whole loans, including both prime jumbo and expanded credit loans. Additionally, the individual will have the primary responsibility for analyzing the related data tapes for whole loan buying opportunities, pricing and bidding these acquisition offerings, and documenting all aspects of the transactions. The incumbent must continually maintain up to date knowledge of the pricing trends in the residential whole loan market, have an in-depth understanding and practical application of RRAC’s residential credit lending policies and have a regular dialog with both new and existing sellers of residential whole loans. This is a full time, exempt level role.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Responsible for trading multiple billion-dollar volumes every year; many of these trades are one-off deals that are bespoke transactions designed to suit the individual terms negotiated for each trade
- Analyze residential whole loan trade opportunities and execute trades in conformity with Redwood’s board-approved delegation of authority and investment policies
- Experience in trading different loan program types (ARMs and Fixed Rate)
- Proactively develop new relationships and maintain regular dialogue with residential whole loan buyer and seller counterparties
- Maintain accurate analytics, modeling, valuation and trade history of the various whole loan trade pools executed
- Screen new residential whole loan bids and offerings for acquisition suitability
- Collect and analyze sector market color and communicate relevant information to the capital market’s team; research and represent whole loan trade views and opportunity recommendations at internal meetings
- Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent active and practical work experience
- 5 years of experience and extensive knowledge in the whole loan market
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong technical ability of Microsoft Office products (Excel)
- Ability to build and maintain relationships both externally and internally
- Collaborative work style; team orientation
- Strong problem-solving abilities: ability to analyze and interpret data and/or issues that arise in a timely and constructively find solutions.
- Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task with precision
- Ability to set individual goals, work in an unstructured/open trading desk environment, and manage multiple and varied initiatives at once
A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this role is $165k - 210K annually. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
