We are seeking a Phlebotomist to become part of our expanding team in our lab! This role is available on a Per Diem basis!
Job Description:
The Phlebotomist initiates specimen collection for the acquisition of blood or body fluids to perform necessary laboratory testing. He/she processes and distributes these specimens to other personnel for the testing process and performs uncomplicated testing procedures, as directed by position description.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program at an accredited school or documentation of equivalent college courses, “or” Completion of accredited six (6) week phlebotomy program, "or" A high school diploma with emphasis on science and a willingness to learn the necessary skills during a minimum 6 week period under direct Medical Technologist supervision.
- BLS certified.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stand and walk.
- Frequently lift/carry up to 25 pounds, while carrying a drawing tray or handling lab supplies.
- Occasionally push and pull with up to 25 pounds of force for transporting patients in wheelchairs and moving equipment.
- Occasionally bends to knees to draw patients.
- Frequently uses sense of touch to determine adequacy of site for venipuncture.
- Continuously involved in the use of levers, knobs, switches and other manipulations.
Potential Hazards:
- OSHA Blood Borne/TB Classification Class I – Occupational exposure to blood and Other Potentially Infectious materials (OPIMs) is reasonably expected to occur in routine performance duties.
- Continual exposure to blood/body fluids and needles/syringes/sharps during specimen collection.
- Occasional exposure to chemical compounds utilized in specimen preservation.
- Occasional exposure to moving instrumentation parts.
- Occasional exposure to potentially dangerous patient situations.
