Job Description: Direct Support Professional
· Summary: As a Direct Support Professional, you will be crucial in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to assist and empower others to lead fulfilling lives and achieve their goals. Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
· Provide transportation in your vehicle and/or arrange public transportation as needed.
· Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping others.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to adapt to changing needs and situations.
· Reliable, responsible, and trustworthy.
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes
· Willingness to undergo background checks and clearance procedures as required by the employer.
Responsibilities:
· Personalized Care and Assistance: Provide direct care and support to individuals with disabilities in their daily activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility assistance.
· Individualized Support Plans: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized support plans based on each person's unique needs and goals.
· Emotional and Behavioral Support: Foster a supportive and nurturing environment by addressing emotional and behavioral needs, promoting positive coping mechanisms, and implementing behavioral interventions as required.
· Skill Development: Encourage the acquisition and development of essential life skills, such as communication, socialization, money management, and household tasks, through personalized teaching methods and interactive activities.
· Community Integration: Facilitate community integration by transporting and assisting individuals in participating in recreational activities, accessing community resources, and promoting social inclusion.
· Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily activities, progress notes, incidents, and any significant changes in behavior or health. Report observations and concerns to the appropriate supervisors or healthcare professionals.
· Safety and Advocacy: always ensure the safety and well-being of individuals, including monitoring their physical environment, implementing safety protocols, and advocating for their rights and needs within the community.
· Collaborative Teamwork: Effectively collaborate with colleagues, families, caregivers, and other professionals involved in the individual's care, participating in team meetings and contributing to care planning discussions.
· Professional Development: Through ongoing training and professional development opportunities, stay updated on best practices, current regulations, and advancements in direct support services.
Rate of Pay:
· $20.00/hr. for regular awake shifts; minimum wage for on-site-on-call and training shifts
· Overtime is paid at 1 ½ times the regular rate of pay (average of all hours worked in the period)
· PTO accrues at .0385 hours per hour worked for regular awake and on-site on-call hours.
