Opportunity Summary:
Under general direction, to develop and implement safety and environmental programs aimed at minimizing the risk of injury, illness and environmental contamination and ensuring company compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Examples of Duties:
- Develop, implement, and maintain general safety policies and procedures.
- Inspect and audit facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
- Lead and train ergonomics teams.
- Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies. Participate in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
- Conducts training in the areas of safety, health, ergonomics, and other federally regulated requirements and maintains training requirements in these programs on an annual basis for all employees required. Develop and coordinate training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.
- Prepare and arrange safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, wellness seminars, etc.
- Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
- Responsible for obtaining, maintaining, and updating Nor-Lake’s Safety Management System manual and all policies in it.
- Gather data and prepare all necessary monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports for the corporate office as well as Local, State, or Federal agencies, such as: WDNR, EPA, Fire Department, Insurance companies, etc. Prepare annual “Environmental Calendar” listing all agency testing requirements for each new calendar year.
- Maintain online and site-specific spread sheets pertaining to Safety Data Sheets.
- Develop annual safety objectives for the company in cooperation with the Executive Safety Committee.
- Knowledgeable in ISO 14001 standard and maintaining an environmental management system.
- Maintain LOTO procedures for facility
- Maintaining CSP certification or working on acquiring one
Professional & Personal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or related field and 5 years’ safety experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards found under Title 29 Part 1910 of the Code of Federal Regulations, NFPA, NEC and ANSI.
- Skill in using Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Skill in preparing clear, understandable policy, procedure, and work instruction documents.
- Skill in behavioral based safety at all levels to support safety/environmental programs.
- Ability to obtain required certifications that may be required by the company.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to gather and analyze technical information from a variety of sources.
