The Refrigeration HVAC Technician plays a critical role at RUI, providing start-up support and direction to the Installation teams. This position requires strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Candidates must be self-motivated, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and meet the qualifications listed below.

Responsibilities:
- Complete tasks accurately and on time.
- Assist in the repair, installation, start-up, and troubleshooting of commercial refrigeration systems, primarily in supermarkets.
- Provide start-up and technical support to the Refrigeration Construction team.
- Offer technical assistance and service for Energy Management projects and retrofits.
- Ensure proper documentation and turnover to the Refrigeration Service Department.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of commercial refrigeration system operations, including controls.
- Interpret refrigeration plans and electrical schematics to implement functional systems while adhering to specifications.
- Diagnose and repair refrigeration system issues.
- Braze or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
- Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment.
- Install and adjust components such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, and control valves using hand tools and acetylene welding equipment.
- Charge systems with the correct type of refrigerant per specifications.
- Operate tools, gauges, and other testing equipment.
- Read blueprints to determine the location, size, capacity, and type of components required for system construction.
- Lay out reference points for installation of structural and functional components using measuring instruments.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and controls.
- MUST HAVE a minimum of 10 years experience in commercial HVAC
- Understanding of electrical and plumbing concepts.
- Knowledge of basic construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in math, communication, and basic computer skills.
- Physical ability to lift and carry equipment and work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, or stooping, for long periods.
- Must have an insurable driving record and valid driver’s license.
- EPA Certification is required.
- Ability to possess or obtain a refrigeration electrical license in Washington State.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently as needed.
- Willingness to collaborate with management to maintain RUI’s technical reputation and suggest improvements.
- Open to additional tasks as required.
Additional Details:
- This position is part of the Installation Department and does not report to the Refrigeration Service Department.
- It is not part of the Refrigeration On-Call Rotation.
- Hours may vary depending on project needs, and some travel may be required.
