The Refugee Enrichment & Development Association Inc. (REDA Inc.) is a community based nonprofit organization that empowers refugees, asylees, and new immigrants who do not speak proper English Language, helps them in addressing their daily challenges, and support them to attain self-sufficiency. REDA provides a free, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive package of services that are tailored to address the whole family needs. The REDA Social Service Center helps refugee families and new legal immigrants in applying and obtaining affordable housing, county financial assistance, employment, medical appointments, transportation, governmental agencies, health insurance, public education system, and many other services. The REDA Education Center helps adults and youth learn and enhance their English Language skills, helps the middle & high school students to excel in their academic performance through the Tutoring Center and prevents them from dropping out from schools. The REDA Youth Center provides mentoring, counseling, outdoor educational trips & recreational camps to both male & female youth, as well as STEM projects. The REDA Mental Health program conducts Mental Health screening services in multi languages for adults and youth then refer them to appropriate resources to help them with their Mental Health healing needs.
Job’s Main Duties:
The Youth Coordinator is responsible for administering, delivering, and implementing programs/projects for youth enrolled in the REDA’s Youth Center. The coordinator will use existing curricula to carry out REDA’s youth programs. Assist in updating and developing new curricula as necessary through working with REDA's Youth Mentoring Supervisor and REDA Director of Educational Programs. The coordinator is responsible for the scheduling of the youth educational sessions and the one-on-one personal counseling and mentoring sessions, and maintaining of the records to track programs’ progress and accomplishments. The coordinator should have a broad knowledge of current issues and challenges related to the refugee youth living in the Greater Sacramento Valley.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinates and supervises the day-to-day activities of the youth center.
- Builds a strong bonding and establishes mutual respect with all youth.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and support for refugee youth attending programs and activities in the youth center.
- Implements and models alternative communication intervention strategies for the purpose of teaching students how to communicate effectively.
- Implements and models social skills development techniques for the purpose of assisting students in achieving academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
- Conducts outreach to recruit youth for youth programs and activities.
- Maintains the schedule and times of the youth center regarding youth participation, programs implementation, and conducting activities.
- Manages the youth center equipment and inventory and ensures they are available and well maintained.
- Maintains a positive work environment and sets an example of conduct and professionalism for refugee youth, refugee parents and siblings, and REDA staff.
- Perform other job-related duties and tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- A self-starter and self-motivated individual with a strong passion to help youth.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in computer skills, in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and in social media platforms.
- Some experience in running youth programs.
- Bi-lingual: English / Dari/Farsi/Pashto speaker is highly preferred.
- Trauma-informed care training preferred.
- A bachelor's Degree in Psychology is preferred.
