When you do join us, you will be an integral contributor to a non-governmental organization that advocates for lifesaving assistance and protection for refugees and other displaced people, abiding by the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. You will be a member of the organization’s dynamic Strategic Outreach team, which advances the organization’s external engagement functions, including communications and media relations, campaigns, government relations, and partnerships. You will support advocacy and campaign priorities with the Strategic Outreach team and the work of the Refugee Advocacy Lab ("the Lab"). You will be able to do so in a "hybrid" work environment.
ABOUT THE POSITION
You will:
- Report to the Vice President for Strategic Outreach;
- Hold the internship during the Summer of 2025;
- Work at least 250 hours as guided by the Vice President;
- Work during ET hours either remotely or hybrid in the Washington DC office depending on your location.
- Earn a stipend of $4,000.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Your day-to-day responsibilities:
- Support advocacy and campaign priorities with Refugees International’s Strategic Outreach team and the work of the Refugee Advocacy Lab (Lab);
- Assist with publishing on and maintaining Refugees International website;
- Draft video, multimedia, digital graphics, and written content for Refugees International and the Lab’s digital platforms;
- Assist with edits and updates to contact database and disseminate digital communications via the Marketo email marketing system;
- Research social media and digital best practices;
- Research key advocacy targets, partners, and audiences;
- Help with digital analytics reporting;
- Keep current on stories related to Refugees International’s work in major news outlets;
- Assist with meetings, events, and special projects as they arise.
Talents you should have:
- Showing enthusiasm for the vision and mission of the work;
- Possessing strong writing and social media skills;
- Being comfortable using Adobe, Canva, or other digital design platforms;
- Having GIS, data science, or graphic design skills a plus;
- Maintaining a close attention to detail;
- Juggling multiple tasks simultaneously and independently;
- Demonstrating a strong interest in and knowledge of Refugees International’s issues;
- Lived experience of forced displacement is a plus.

ABOUT THE REFUGEE ADVOCACY LAB
The Refugee Advocacy Lab is an initiative housed at Refugees International and co-founded with the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), International Rescue Committee (IRC), and Refugee Congress to grow the movement for U.S. leadership on refugee protection and inclusion. Centered in the perspective and leadership of displaced people themselves, we support the advocacy community by developing strategic communications resources, championing inclusive policies, and building capacity for the field.

Refugees International advocates for assistance and protection for displaced people and promotes solutions to displacement crises. The team of advocates travel to some of the world’s most severe displacement crises to investigate first-hand the challenges displaced people face, create policy solutions, and demand action.
