BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
ID Grind machinists are responsible for producing work in the most efficient manner while meeting drawing/planning specifications/requirements.
Sets-up and operates grinding machines to produce parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications. Selects, mounts, attaches, and calibrates a variety of attachments to grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc., onto surfaces. Set-ups may require blocking, aligning, and securing irregular-shaped work pieces. Dresses and changes wheels for various finish requirements. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. May orient, train, assign, and check the work of lower-level associates.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Completes set-ups with some supervision/assistance.
- Responsible for all phases of part operation set-up to achieve first article acceptance.
- Performs and maintains accurate in-process quality inspection and records.
- May identify and recommend process improvements that reduce part quality variation.
- May improve processes, procedures, and eliminate waste.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE, CAPABILITIES, AND SUCCESS FACTORS
- At least three (3) years' experience in operation set-up on CNC ID grinding equipment.
- Skilled in the use of indicator, gage, dial bores, and plate inspection methods for first article and in-process inspection of precision machined parts.
- Able to maintain close tolerances (within 0.0003") of IDs, hold 0.0003 profile, roundness.
- Understanding of machine tool accuracies, tool offsets.
- Knowledge of cutting wheel feeds, speeds, and wheel life for aerospace grinding.
- Able to follow verbal instructions and interpret blueprints and quality requirements.
- Able to communicate with employees and management in a positive manner.
- Able to lift a maximum of 25 lbs (over 25 lbs with assistance).
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Ideal candidate will have experience with AS9100, 5S, Lean, and Six Sigma.
