Direct the daily routine functioning of the nursing staff by assuring the overall supervision of all nursing personnel concerned with resident care and ensuring compliance with all federal, state and facility regulations, policies and procedures.
Assistant Director of Nursing
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES: The entire nursing staff indirectly reports through the ADNS to the DNS.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Interest in the nursing needs of the aged and the chronically ill with the ability to work with the elderly.
- Ability to work with supervisors, co-workers and facility staff in the performance of duties.
- Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position/assignment. On Call responsibilities.
- Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Connecticut. Minimum of two years of additional education or experience in rehabilitative of geriatric nursing and one year of nursing services administration.
- CPR certified.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required-bending, stooping, turning, stretching, and reaching above the shoulders are involved.
- Must be able to cope with the mental, emotional and physical stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, and outside agencies
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 Ibs.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Acts as liaison between Director of Nursing and the entire nursing staff.
- Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.
- Ensures that nursing services staffing needs and schedules are met.
- Assists in the interpretation of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.
- Assists in recruitment and selection of nursing services employees.
- Responsible for ordering and receiving medications for the emergency drug box.
- Assumes all responsibilities of the Director of Nursing in his/her absence.
- Responsible for documenting disciplinary concerns for RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses (RN/LPN).
- Verifies that significant clinical developments are reported to the resident's physician and family.
- Ensures that nursing requirements for licensure and accreditation are maintained. Documents all professional licenses.
