The 1:1 School Nurse Float provides comprehensive health care services to students, ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. This position is specifically designed to support students with individualized health needs, such as chronic medical conditions, physical disabilities, or special healthcare requirements, across multiple classrooms and grade levels within the school. As a floating nurse, the role will require flexibility and the ability to provide nursing care to various students in different settings within the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to assigned students with specific health needs (e.g., diabetes, asthma, allergies, seizures, etc.).
- Monitor and assess student health on a regular basis, including administering prescribed medications and treatments.
- Serve as a liaison between parents, healthcare providers, and school staff regarding student health concerns, updates, and accommodations.
- Support emergency situations by being available to respond to medical emergencies or incidents, ensuring prompt and appropriate care.
- Float between classrooms and grade levels to assist students across the school who require specialized attention or care.
- Track and document student health records, maintaining accurate, confidential, and up-to-date information in compliance with relevant laws and policies.
- Provide health education to students and staff about health-related topics, including illness prevention, safety, and general well-being.
- Collaborate with the school administration to ensure a safe and healthy school environment, including the development of health-related policies and procedures.
- Promote health and wellness initiatives within the school community through various activities and programs.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in NH
- A degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school setting or with pediatric patients.
- Experience with special needs students and administering specialized care is highly preferred
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certified (required).
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt and float between various grade levels and classrooms.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of child health and development, including common childhood illnesses, conditions, and medical interventions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student health information.
- Physical ability to lift, move, and assist students when necessary.
- Availability for occasional after-hours or emergency situations if needed.
Work Environment
- School setting with interaction between students, staff, and parents.
- May require movement between classrooms and other areas within the school from week to week.
