Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Acts as liaison between nursing units, admissions and the DON.
- Ensure Safety for all Residents
- Monitors and evaluates nursing staff and makes recommendations for training or work modification to the DON.
- Performs personnel management functions such as establishing personnel qualification requirements, drafting procedure manuals, initiating in-service programs, and installing record and reporting systems.
- Performs studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services in relation to their objectives and cost.
- Ensures that annual competency evaluations and performance reviews are completed in the appropriate time frame.
- Pro-actively addresses survey and/or standards of care issues (weight loss, gradual dose reduction, pressure ulcers and change of condition etc.)
- Follow up on resident/family/employee concerns in a timely manner.
- Plans and guides the professional development of nursing staff.
- Daily chart audits to review all assessments; nursing summaries, MARS, treatment, flow sheets and nurse’s notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
- Report any medication errors and any significant changes of resident status to the Director of Nursing/Administrator.
- Assist the DON in investigations of all allegations of resident abuse.
- Represents the DON at meetings in the community and assumes responsibility for nursing operations in the Director of Nursing’s absence.
- Works with the staffing coordinator to ensure that shifts have adequate nursing staff to meet facility/census requirements.
- Assists DON in preparing reports and forms in a timely manner.
- Participates in counseling, disciplinary action and termination of staff, to the extent permitted by state practice act.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

Educational Requirements And Experience
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
- Valid license
- Valid CPR certification
- 5-10 years of nursing experience preferred.
