Principal Application Developer

We are seeking a Principal Application Developer with a focus in front-end development, who can help develop and maintain applications to analyze and interpret millions of genotyped and sequenced human samples, and ensuring we deliver high quality and flexible tools to help scientists perform large scale genome-wide analyses. To enable the Regeneron Genetics Center to generate the knowledge necessary for delivering better medicines to patients, we must empower our scientists to efficiently generate and interact with results derived from millions of sequenced individuals. A proven track record of implementing web applications in a cloud-based computing environment (i.e. AWS, GCP) is essential for this role.

As a Principal Application Developer, a typical day may include:

• Design and implement new features to existing applications to fit users’ needs based on shifting state-of-the-art genetic analysis methods.
• Provide interactive and highly customizable visualization of results.
• Modernize and optimize existing applications to improve performance.
• Develop new applications and functions to support novel analysis types.
• Interact with other developers in the team and work together on priority tasks.
• Provide user support by answering questions, understanding specific use cases, fixing bugs, and writing documentation.
• Communicate with, brainstorm new ideas with, and collect feature requests from a variety of colleagues who are experts in analysis methods or are users of the tools you are developing.

To Be Considered For This Role, You Must Have

• At least a master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with minimum 6 years relevant experience in Computational Biology or a related field. A doctorate degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field is also encouraged.
• Expertise in developing web applications with python and/or javascript (i.e. Flask and React), data visualization with d3 and canvas.
• Experience in UX/UI design.
• Experience working on a Linux/UNIX command line, SQL database and can develop code in a high-level programming language like Python.
• Experience in continuous integration and continuous development (CI/CD) is preferred.
• Experience working with biological or genomics data is a plus.
