About the role

The Nursing Assistant provides general patient care assistance under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Responsible for the general maintenance of equipment, room and supplies.

What you'll do

  • Maintains the area, equipment and level of supplies.
  • Performs a variety of assisting and servicing activities, both with the patients and to help maintain the area.
  • Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to patients, staff, visitors and others as part of the organization's commitment to quality services.
  • Works effectively as part of the healthcare team to facilitate the unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his / her responsibilities related to general safety, center / service safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Free from the occurrence of risk or danger or loss. Seeks to prevent injury to themselves and others.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the patient as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center / unit team to facilitate the center and unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Minimum Education / Experience :

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required Licenses / Certifications :

  • CNA certification preferred. CPR certification required.
  • Language Skills :

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees.
  • Mathematical Skills :

  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Computer Skills :

  • Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, word processing, communicate by E-mail and use scheduling software.
  • Reasoning Ability :

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Special Requirements :

    Must be able to work variable hours and be flexible to meet the needs of the center's daily surgery schedule.

    Physical Demands :

  • The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to lift patients, assist a patient that is falling, and carry heavy medical equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is frequently required to attend to patients and escort them to and from patient care areas, often being leaned on for support. Upper body strength, for lifting or helping patients out of bed and bath, is also a must. The employee is occasionally required to sit or smell.
  • Work Environment :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
  • Medical facilities need to be as clean as possible, and excellent hygiene is required to keep patients clean and safe from sickness and infection.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand washing practices and Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated. Is subject to interruptions, noise, and odors daily
