Under the direction of Clinical Director of Nursing the Charge Nurse has responsibility during periods of delegation by the Clinical Director, for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the center and their effect on patient care. In the absence of the Clinical Director of Nursing, has authority to make decisions in the center in the areas of patient care, human resource and clinical financial management.

About The Role

Duties, Responsibilities, Competencies
- This job description is to be used in conjunction with the primary area of nursing the individual will be working (Pre-Op, Post-Op, OR, etc). Serving as a Charge Nurse the individual will also have these additional responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate the center’s mission, vision and values, as well as center goals, to all staff. 2. Provides supervision, leadership, and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, outcome achievement, and promotion of team cohesion.
- Demonstrates staffing accountability through planning, assigning, directing work of subordinate staff, including training, and appraising performance in conjunction with the DON.
- Supports the DON in the evaluation of performance objectives and metrics for the center and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others including through rewarding and disciplining direct reports and addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Demonstrates the ability to cope with, and manage change effectively, as well as help others do the same.
- May at time be required to collaborate with other centers to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact center/organizational goals and/or patient care delivery.
- Supports the DON in demonstrating fiscal accountability for center resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other center functions.
- Effectively participates in the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), Infection Control, Safety, Medication Management programs and committees as assigned.
- Appropriately documents all requested reports for benchmarking, scorecards, and meeting minutes in a timely manner
- Maintain budget items assigned by leadership: Hours / case, pharmaceutical expenses, and any other assigned areas
- Supports, implements, and champions the effective management of supply costs and cost-savings initiatives.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities.
Required
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- RN with active license in appropriate state
- BLS/ACLS certification, PALS preferred
- Evidence of leadership qualities
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Language skills: adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
- Math Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Computer literacy including: email, spreadsheet, word processing,
- Must be able to work variable hours and flex with the surgical schedule and staffing needs
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing
- Healthcare-management experience, 1 yrs
- ASC experience
