What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Specialist position at Region 1 Planning Council?
Position Summary: This is a full-time position, working on-site in our beautiful office along the riverfront in downtown Rockford, Illinois. Pay commensurate with experience.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for the maintenance of the Winnebago County geographic information system and the City/County 911 systems, using GIS and other appropriate software. This will include updating geometry, attribute data as well as the potential production of hard copy and/or digital maps. This may also include the coordination and participation of other projects to facilitate the use of the GIS data between all WinGIS Agencies.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS or an associated field or a combination of work experience and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of experience in GIS spatially enabled database-related activities (desirable).
- Proficiency in the use of Esri GIS software, ArcGIS 10.x, ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Proficiency in the use of MS SQL, MS Excel, and MS Access.
- Experience with project management.
ABILITIES:
- Create, edit, integrate, verify, and manage geospatial data and attributes using GIS software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compile and extract geographic data from a variety of sources.
- Experience with AutoCAD (desirable).
- Familiarity with CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch – for 911) (desirable).
- Perform GIS database conversions to and from different formats.
- Perform database design, advanced GIS analysis, and modeling.
- Communicate task status, needs and issues to team members and manager.
- Document and maintain records of data processing procedures and decisions.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, organize, adjust to changing priorities, and work cooperatively.
Compensation and Benefits: Rate of pay will take into consideration prior applicable experience.
