    POSITION: Agriscience and Technology Teacher (Landscaping/Horticulture), grades 9-12

    LOCATION: Nonnewaug High School

    START DATE: April 21, 2025 or as soon as possible

    DEADLINE DATE: April 7, 2025

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Primary teaching responsibilities include all agriscience focus areas but particularly grade 9 Introduction to Plant Science, Grade 10 Introduction to Landscape/Horticulture and grade 11/12 Landscape/Horticulture. Experience in Agricultural Mechanics Preferred.

    Qualifications: Applicants should:

    • Be in position to be certified or currently be certified by the Connecticut State Department of Education to teach Vocational Agriculture Education.
    • Applicants with Agriscience teaching experience are preferred.
    • Have extensive experience with Landscape and Horticulture areas.
    • Have extensive FFA Leadership Development experience.
    • Have extensive experience with SAE work experience programs.
    • Have the ability to meet with and establish good relationships with those involved in the agriculture community.
    • Have the ability to plan and develop curriculum materials based on needs of students and the agriculture community, and possess satisfactory skills in instructional methods.
    • Be able to work as a team with other instructors in the Agriscience and Technology Program.
    • Be able to maintain and coordinate the use of an extensive variety of instructional tools and equipment.

    Applicants will be expected to:

    • hold or secure CDL license for passenger endorsement
    • Assume responsibilities with FFA, including student supervision beyond the school day during FFA related activities.

    Perform on-site SAE visits and specific SAE responsibilities and evaluations throughout the year.

    Professional responsibilities will include participation with regional advisory committee, local FFA Alumni and Parent Support Group, and related state staff (CAAE) meetings and activities.

    Teaching Position Responsibilities:

    • ?Instructor will be required to attend professional meetings related to curriculum areas and keep informed of changes and needs of the industry, and establish a rapport with the agricultural community.
    • Instructor will be required to attend Agriscience teachers meetings and conferences, as directed, and participate in committee assignments with the Connecticut Association of Agriculture Educators (CAAE).
    • Instructor will be encouraged to join National and State Agriculture Educators’ associations and affiliates as well as local education associations.
    • Instructor will be responsible for care and management of the landscaping, equipment, machinery, and tools as well as upkeep and maintenance of specific areas of the school.
    • Instructor will serve as an Advisor to the FFA Chapter, along with other instructors at the Ag Center, and will provide instruction and supervision for preparation of FFA Activities.
    • Instructor reports directly to the Director of the Agriscience and Technology Program.
    • Instructor will be required to keep records and submit reports, as directed.

    SALARY: According to the contract. Additional Requirement: Position includes 36 day (1.2 FTE) extended contract beyond the school year.

    QUALIFICATIONS: State of Connecticut Vocational Agriculture (040/041) Required

    WORK YEAR: July 1- June 30 yearly
