JOB TITLE: Regional Food Recovery Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Environment & Sustainability Planner

STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a direct result of our development of a Regional Food Recovery Plan, regional partners have identified a Regional Food Recovery Coordinator as a key tactic to rescue additional food across the region. Under direction of the Region Nine Development Commission Environment & Sustainability Planner, the Regional Food Recovery Coordinator will directly implement efforts to identify and address food recovery needs and opportunities within the region. This includes outreach, communication, and logistic coordination across RNDC’s nine county service area.

This position will also assist the Environmental & Sustainability Planner with goals, objectives, and grant requirements part of overall food recovery efforts and strategy at Region Nine Development Commission.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish, engage in, and maintain strong positive working relationships with food recovery network contacts, food shelves, non-profits, local units of government, businesses, and related stakeholders focused on addressing food insecurity.
  • Build relationships with sources of food (truckers and trucking companies, food manufacturers, food distributors, truck stops, gas stations, grocery stores, farmers, etc.)
  • Create and distribute regional materials to sources of food that highlight resources for storage and receiving capacities of food access partners.
  • Coordinate and support collection and distribution of excess recovered food between food access partners.
  • Support food access partners in increasing physical food storage capacity (coolers, freezers, shelving) by sharing resources on funding or grant opportunities.
  • Assist food access partners with increasing their receiving capacity through mechanisms including but not limited to volunteer coordination and identifying resources to aid in purchasing needed equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts.
  • Leverage partnerships to develop and begin implementation of a 24/7 food capture infrastructure to ensure all possible edible food has an opportunity to be captured, tracked, and distributed.
  • Develop a system through regional partnerships and relationships for sustainable disposal of inedible excess food to farmers, compost sites, and other local options ahead of landfill disposal.
  • Engage and collaborate with the public and relevant stakeholders, including the private sector and community groups.
  • Create a transparent method to measure progress over time.
  • Other duties as assigned/necessary to achieve program requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background working in food recovery or food assistance within the non-profit sector, local government, or at an organization that requires logistical coordination. A two or four-year degree in a relevant field is preferred, but not required.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to write and speak English fluently and follow the plain language initiative.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate meetings/outreach events.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Availability for at times a varying schedule to accommodate food recovery needs outside of normal working hours.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
