What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional position at Region V Services?
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) provide training and support for individuals with disabilities in their homes and/or community locations. This support enhances the individual's competencies, helps them achieve goals, and builds relationships within the community.
The DSP may work in various locations, with scheduled hours based on individual needs. These may include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Attendance is required at training sessions to expand knowledge and provide quality services.

Essential Functions
- Provide systematic training and customized supports based on individual needs and desired outcomes.
- Attend team meetings to ensure training and supports meet individual needs.
- Work with the individual, family, and team members to identify desired outcomes and participate in assessments/evaluations.
- Develop training programs, maintain data collection records, and report as required.
- Monitor training programs regularly to enhance personal growth and ensure progress.
- Serve as a positive role model and trainer for socially enhancing behavior, personal hygiene, language, and personal grooming.
- Work cooperatively with consultants, supervisors, and other agency staff to meet individual needs.
- Instruct, follow, and enforce safety precautions according to federal, state, local, and Region V Services rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to meet individual needs for training and support.
- Assist individuals in meeting nutritional and dietetic needs.
- Certify as a Medication Aide, if required, and follow laws and regulations in medication administration.
- Provide necessary supervision and training in various environments to increase valued social roles.
- Assist individuals in maintaining personal appearance and hygiene.
- Provide transportation and support for individuals to improve community access skills.
- Attend staff meetings, training conferences, and developmental sessions to improve job performance.
- Assist individuals in managing personal funds according to Region V Services procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of training individuals with developmental disabilities helpful.
- Ability to work with individuals with special needs, including personal hygiene/care.
- Ability to contribute positively to the work team.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the service location.
- Lifting may be required; adaptive equipment must be used if available.
- Eighteen years of age or older.
- Ability to accept directions and complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to identify and report situations requiring supervisor's advice.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge.
- Prefer one year experience in human services.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license or adequate means of transportation.
- Reliable means of communication, such as a telephone or cell phone.
- Subject to criminal history APS and CPS background check, drug and alcohol screen.
Compensation Details
Hourly Wage: $15.31-$16.41
