What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing Specialist position at Regional Diagnostic Radiology?
Open to candidates looking for full time or part time work. Part time position is not benefit eligible. The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for working claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided and ensuring that payments, allowances, adjustments, denials/rejections are posted accurately and in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides professional and exceptional customer service to all.
- Works with co-workers and managers to ensure a pleasant work environment and to promote Teamwork.
- Protects the privacy and confidentiality of our clients and our company at all times.
- Assists patients with billing inquiries when needed and provide payment options.
- Requires attention to detail and experience with the Imagines’ electronic and paper claim, ERS, and EOB modules.
- Works closely with the Billing Team Supervisor to improve workflow.
- Follows up on claim denials and unpaid claims, within the timely filing limits.
- Research and appeal denied claims.
- Corrects errors and resubmits claims when appropriate.
- Checking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount as per fee schedule.
- Provides training for new hire billing staff in daily workflow processes and acts as a key resource for process and workflow questions.
- Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of two years post-secondary education in a Medical or Business-related field and a minimum of two-years’ experience in a medical office setting or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two years previous experience as a Medical Biller preferred
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Ability to handle difficult situations and persons in a positive and professional manner.
- Applies effective listening techniques.
- Requires proficiency with computer programs.
- Requires strong organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements.
- Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections.
- Competent use of Imagine billing software or proficiency within 6 months of hire
WORKING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Normal Medical Clinic Environment: Indoors in a clean, well illuminated area of constant temperature in which one is exposed to only noise from business machines and medical practice equipment. Protective measures are necessary based on the level of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous substances.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lifting: 5-50 pounds periodically.
- Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient for operation of standard office equipment.
- Repetitive movement of digits.
- Normal range of hearing and vision.
- Ability to speak in a clearly understood manner.
- Sitting 90% of time.
- Some bending, stooping, lifting, and stretching.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
