What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Technician Manager position at Regional Food Bank?
Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a valid New York State CDL Class B driver’s license. Must have five to ten years of truck refrigeration experience as well as diesel mechanic experience. Required to provide own hand tools. Must possess good customer skills and have the temperament and interpersonal skills to train other Technicians. Prior experience operating power equipment preferred. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain gas and power equipment certifications.
Physical Requirements: This position will be exposed to extreme temperatures and/or weather conditions. There will be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending, pulling, and reaching. This position would normally have routine opportunities for the employee to be able to alter their physical position or change eye focus. This position will require the safe use of a power equipment. This position requires the use of step ladders, and the employee may be subject to working at heights. Employee should have the ability to lift up to 80 pounds without assistance.
Position Summary: Responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing and servicing a variety of fleet trucks and refrigeration units through leading a team of technician(s). Supervises Fleet Technicians.
1. Performs all duties of the Fleet Technician job description.
2. Supervises all Fleet Technicians.
3. Performs an inventory of parts and supplies for the transportation operation, including budgetary and ordering of needed parts. Assists Director of Transportation with ordering supplies and parts.
4. Assists with developing specifications for new vehicles and equipment as well as pricing and orders.
5. Assists with the maintenance records for the transportation operation.
6. Schedules and executes all required training requirements.
7. Responsible for scheduling all preventative maintenance for fleet as well as NYS inspections through usage and upkeep of fleet maintenance software.
8. Oversees all equipment recalls and warranties.
9. Orders all needed shop tools to perform job duties.
10. Assists with clearing parking lot of snow and ice.
11. Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, coaching and development of technician staff.
12. Provides input for employee performance reviews, counseling, and terminations.
13. Responsible for the accurate and timely review and approval of employee’s time and time off through the timekeeping system.
14. Checks and maintains all fleet refrigeration units.
15. Repairs, troubleshoots, and services all fleet refrigeration units, as needed.
16. Creates and maintains a refrigeration unit cleaning schedule of all units.
17. Installs refrigeration units on new trucks and trailers.
18. Performs welding, braising and soldering, as needed.
19. Steel, aluminum and copper fabrication as needed.
20. Stays up-to-date with training on new equipment and technology.
21. Maintains a clean and safe workspace.
22. Inspects power equipment prior to use.
23. Follows all safety standards and procedures.
24. Works independently and collaboratively with other departments and employees in support of the mission of the Food Bank.
25. Adheres to the Food Bank’s Employee Code of Conduct.
26. Performs other duties as assigned.
