Description

Position Purpose

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) greets and welcomes patients and visitors to the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor. The PSR is responsible for managing front desk responsibilities including maintaining patient flow, scheduling appointments, appropriately handling phone calls which may include entry into and/or navigation of the EHR, validating insurance eligibility, entering demographics, insurance, and other pertinent information into the clinic and hospital patient accounting systems, and determining and collecting time of service payments and/or past due balances at the time of appointment. The is also responsible for triaging telephone calls, recording and distributing messages to clinicians and staff as well as other clerical activities as requested.

What you will Do

  • Greets and welcomes patients and visitors to the clinic courteously and ascertains the reason for the visit or phone call. Determines next step in meeting the patient's needs. This may include entering telephone call information into the electronic health record.
  • Schedules patient appointments determining the type of visit and amount of time to allow according to the providers' workflow. Arranges for interpreter services as needed. Helps patients find care at the appropriate level in other network facilities as needed.
  • Provides support to Behavioral Health Care staff, to include scheduling appointments and meetings. Assists in making sure all appointments/meetings are recorded in appointment schedules and notifies staff of conflicts.
  • Responsible for validating/obtaining and entering demographic and insurance information into the clinic and hospital patient accounting systems by interviewing the patient, family member and /or guarantor. Conducts online insurance eligibility/verification. Determines when new consent forms are required and explains to patient/family members.

Hours/Schedule

  • Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

Experience

  • One year experience in physician practice setting is preferred.

Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes

  • Demonstrated competence with word processing and computers is required.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks and be able to prioritize.
  • Must be pleasant and tactful in working with patients, staff members, other hospital personnel and co-workers
