What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNA (Med-Surg/ICU) position at REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER?
24 hours per week
Rotating Day/Night shifts
Every 3rd weekend
Holiday Rotation
This position is responsible for direct care of patients in the Medical Surgical/ICU area, as well as patient related housekeeping services, in accordance with hospital and departmental standards and policies.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Acquires knowledge of the patient’s current condition through shift report from nursing staff
- Performs patient related services as directed by primary nurse, Charge, or House Supervisor
- Provides personal care assistance (bathing, grooming, feeding, and toileting) for patients for which training and experience have provided the necessary degree of skill
- Assists patients with ambulation, transferring, and turning in bed
- Obtains and documents vital signs, I/O, weights, and meal percentage eaten
- Obtains capillary blood glucose readings
- Answers call lights and performs patient rounding
- Documents all patient care completed including hygiene cares, patient activity and patient rounding
- Assists with patient safety practices
- Performs Safety Technician 1:1 duties and documents
- Prepares patients for meals; serves and collects trays; assists in setting up and feeding patients;
serves fresh water and nourishments when indicated - Provides for comfort of patients
- Assists in preparing patients for tests and transporting specimens to lab
- Transports patients throughout the hospital as delegated
- Observes, reports and records any changes in signs, symptoms and conditions of the patient
- Communicates patient needs, serves as a patient advocate
- Communicates effectively with medical staff, hospital and department members, patients and families
- Answers telephone, takes messages, disseminates information to the appropriate personnel
- Assists in controlling visitors to patients as delegated
- Assists in infection control and quality assurance activities
- Performs cleaning duties, cleaning of patient rooms and other areas relating to patient care;
completes assigned department daily checklist duties - Supplies and cleans nourishment center
- Checks and restocks department supplies
- Keeps work area clean and organized
- Attends all in-services and meetings as required
- Assists in the orientation of new employees
