What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Department Tech position at REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER?
Schedule: Approximately 60 hours every 2 weeks. This position also includes a weekend and holiday rotation. Must be willing to work days, evenings and nights.
This position is responsible for clerical and minor clinical duties for the provision and promotion of optimal patient care in the Emergency Department.
Reports to the Emergency Services Manager in collaboration with the ED Nurse Lead.
- Is responsible and accountable to regular attendance at work
- Attends required meetings
- Capable of critical thinking in emergency situations
- Coordinates patient care with other departments and within the department verbally and through use of computer/EMR
- Has knowledge of EMTALA to render safe and thorough treatment to each emergency patient
- Complies with HIPAA regulations
- Attends the emergency department desk, designates replacement when leaving the area
- Answers telephone with proper etiquette, takes messages, disseminates information to the appropriate personnel
- Answers the Vocera communication device with proper etiquette
- Monitors charts for new orders and processes CPOE orders
- Communicates patient information and provider orders to appropriate personnel
- Completes EKGs accurately
- Runs lab specimens to the laboratory
- Keeps work area clean and organized including patient treatment rooms and other areas of the department
- Assists with stocking supplies in the department
- Obtains the appropriate forms and medical records as directed
- Answers call light and assists with patient care activities and notifies appropriate personnel of request
- Ability to electronically chart activities completed within scope of practice
- Communicates needs for assistance
- Communicates effectively with medical staff, hospital personnel, patients, and families
- Communicates to ancillary services any departmental or patient needs
- Assists with orientation of new employees
- Responds in a pleasant and respectful manner to consumer, staff, providers, and public
- Assists in overseeing visitors to patients
- Maintains adequate stock of patient supplies in treatment rooms and supply closet
- Checks supplies of outdates for the department and communicates needs to appropriate personnel
- Assists in physically transferring patients
- May perform venipuncture specimen collection and insert urinary catheters as directed after successful training
