What are the responsibilities and job description for the Immunization Nurse (CMA, LPN, or RN) position at Regional Medical Center?
Status: Part-time, 16-20 hours per week
Schedule:
- Two (2) days per week
- 8-10 hour days
- Weekend rotation is once every twenty-two (22) weekends
This position provides patients, guardians, and clinic staff with immunization related education. The Immunization Nurse/Medical Assistant administers and records immunizations, and works with patients, families, providers, nursing staff, clinic receptionists and ancillary staff to promote timely access to care, continuity of care, and to coach patients, families, and caregivers in understanding the patient’s care plan and self-care management responsibilities.
- Is the clinic champion for immunizations
- Keeps immunization office and injection room clean and free of clutter
- Provides patient/guardian with current patient information
- Orders all medical supplies for immunization area; maintains inventory
- Orders all immunizations for private stock and VFC stock
- Records all vaccines administered by RFH in IRIS
- Is knowledgeable about current immunization schedules as provided by the state’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice
- Educates staff when new information related to vaccines & immunization schedules becomes available
- Manages patients from other clinics who request vaccination
- Educates patients, parents, and guardians on the immunization process and on the immunizations being administered
- Reaches out to guardians of children who are behind on the recommended immunization schedule
- Prepare immunizations and administer vaccines
- Documents all injections in patient’s EHR and IRIS
- Addresses concerns and contacts state as needed
- Documents temperature logs twice daily
- Documents historical vaccine in EHR
- Graduate of an accredited program for medical assisting, practical nursing or registered nursing
- Current certification or licensure to practice in Iowa
- BLS certification
- Child and Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporter training required
- Previous clinical experience preferred
