What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Intern (Temporary/Summer) position at REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER?
The schedule may vary depending on the department selected. The Nurse Intern will follow the schedule of his/her preceptor.
The nurse internship program is available to 3rd year nursing students enrolled in a baccalaureate nursing degree program. Through preceptored and didactic training, the nurse intern will progress, in a careful and measured manner, to orient to the skills and knowledge necessary in providing nursing care for patients in the area selected and accepted for the internship.
Roles of the Nurse Intern include
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating all levels of patient care.
- Performing age appropriate assessments and safe care to all age groups with the RN preceptor maintaining the direct patient care responsibilities and oversight of the nurse intern.
- Documenting cares using medical terminology
- Collaborates with the healthcare team and outside agencies, as appropriate, to provide safe and efficient patient care.
- Ultimately obtains the ability to coordinates the needs of multiple patients and prioritizes those needs to ensure they are met in a timely fashion, that quality care is provided, and patient flow is enhanced.
- Assesses for patient and family knowledge and discharge needs as well as providing for the same.
- Monitors patient condition and technical equipment; performs routine and complex treatments. • Administers medications using safe medication administration practices according to hospital policy.
- Responds to emergent situations in a calm, efficient manner.
- Conveys risk and safety concerns to Preceptor, Director, Nursing Supervisor, or Administration in a timely manner.
- Completes variance reports regarding unexpected patient, and/or family, or employee incidents in a timely manner.
- Shows satisfactory progression in established program of didactic training.
- Ability to document in the electronic medical record in a concise and effective manner.
- Must have ability to calculate figures and amounts for computing doses of medications and IV fluids.
- Must have the ability to rapidly problem solve and deal with a variety of variables and set priorities as well as the ability to analyze data from a variety of sources and choose consistently appropriate interventions to maximize positive patient outcomes.
- Must demonstrate positive, supportive behavior to members of the healthcare team, patients, and families through effective communication, calm appearance and professional behavior.
