    JOB DESCRIPTION

    TITLE: JV Volleyball Coach

    QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of ASEP Approved

    REPORTS TO: Activities Director

    JOB GOAL: To provide leadership for developing student athletic skills and sportsmanship

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As established by the Board

    EVALUATION: Annually as established by Board policy

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Accurately issue, collect, inventory, store, and maintain equipment.
    • Accurately and promptly complete all forms dealing with the IESA, IHSA, and district policies.
    • Assume responsibility for athletes while they represent the Riverton schools and be responsible and accountable for school and team funds.
    • Understand and adhere to all rules and regulations of IESA, IHSA, and the district.
    • Secure approval for expenditures of all school budget and activity account funds; complete purchase orders.
    • Possess knowledge of fundamentals and techniques used to instruct and condition athletes to a level of competitiveness.
    • Possess knowledge of the rules for respective sports.
    • Possess good contest strategies and scouting techniques to prepare the team for opponents.
    • Maintain a level of competence by attending coaches’ meetings, clinics, rules interpretation meetings, and keep updated by reading current materials.
    • Conduct pre-season parent meeting.
    • Provide athletes, parents, athletic director, and Building Principals with a practice schedule with starting times and place.
    • Arrive before athletes and remain until all athletes have left school grounds; confirm that all lights are turned off and all doors and windows are shut and locked.
    • Conduct practice upholding high standards and be able to criticize and/or praise constructively.
    • Provide athletes and parents a schedule of games with times, location, bus time, and approximate time of return.
    • Coach and team should uphold the highest standards for appearance, conduct, and sportsmanship.
    • Handle pressure situations calmly and treat officials with respect and courtesy.
    • Conduct team try-outs according to pre-established criteria.
    • Develop a good relationship with athletes, parents, administration, faculty and support staff.
    • Develop a good relationship with outside agencies such as the media, sports boosters, coaches and administrators from other schools.
    • Respect and support other coaches and their programs.
    • Treat student athletes with respect.
    • Be a role model for sportsmanship.
    • Attend all mandated/required IESA/IHSA and district meetings.
    • Contact all news agencies with scores, player, and team information.
    • Adhere to district budget.
    • Demonstrate and teach the safe use of all equipment and facilities used in athletic intra-mural, extra-curricular and daily physical education curriculum so as to insure freedom from exposure to risk of personal injury or damage to property.
    • Demonstrate and teach good sportsmanship, rules and safety precautions applicable to all athletic intra-mural, extra-curricular and daily physical education curriculum so as to reduce risk of exposure to risk of personal injury or damage to property.
    • Supervise students and enforce district rules and policies during school and school-sponsored events at district attendance centers or away.
    • Notify and cooperate with appropriate personnel according to district policies of maintenance or repairs necessary to offer an athletic program which will insure freedom from exposure to risk of personal injury or damage to property.
    • Be on alert at all times for situations, athletic or otherwise, on district property or at school-sponsored events away from the district, which may pose potential danger to students, employees or visitors.
    • Demonstrate and teach first aid in compliance with the procedures and practices of the American Red Cross or any other district-approved first aid curriculum.
