A Brief Overview
Responsible for timely delivery and retrieval of patient trays and nourishments. Communicates patient needs to tray line, diet office, dietitians and nursing staff. Processes patient food preferences and allergies in the dietitian office. Monitors floor stock and maintains par levels.
What you will do
- Performs duties of delivering and retrieving patient trays and nourishment. Acts as an advocate for the food needs and concerns of the patient. * Delivers meal trays to assigned floors, following established script to greet patients. * Obtains information and assesses service level regarding food services. * Assures patient is served properly and is satisfied with food services before exiting the room. * Prepares and delivers meal nourishment at the appropriate times. * Retrieves soiled trays from assigned floors after meal service. * Obtains food preferences and allergies from patients and documents in patient kardex in the dietitian’s office. * Refers any nutrition related concerns to the unit’s clinical dietitian and non-nutrition related issues to nursing. * Maintains knowledge of the menus, ingredients in food and popular diets normally ordered.
- Communicates to next shift any important issues with specific patients. Always reports to manager/supervisor problems that affect patient care and patient satisfaction.
- Follows established dress code for the host/hostess program.
- Works effectively as a team member within department and with customers to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. * Interacts and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT and Retail Care standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. * Assists personnel when needed by performing tasks to keep department operating at peak efficiency levels. * Answers inquiries and resolves problems related to assigned functions.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality and Compliance Policies).
- Maintains required department records, reports and files. Adheres to established department policies, procedures, objectives, compliance/quality improvement with consideration given to risk management, infection control and patient safety practices
- Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and personnel. * Cleans and assists with care and maintenance of department equipment, utensils and furnishings and utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner. * Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
- Provides coverage for relief and absences within department. Demonstrates flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays to maintain coverage for food and nutrition services.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including, department specific requirements.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma Or equivalent work experience Required and
- Qualified by education, training or experience to work with school age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population Required
- Six (6) months experience in institutional food service in a health care setting with therapeutic diet experience preferred. Preferred
