Regional One Health is currently seeking a Specialty Pharmacy Technician (Certified).
National Certification AND TN Pharmacy Tech. License required. Specialty Pharmacy Tech. experience preferred.
A Brief Overview
Assists registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense specialty medications as defined by Regional One Health standards. Performs various duties related to specialty pharmacy services including, but not limited to, maintaining patient records and documentation, preparing and processing prescriptions, answering telephone calls, communicating with patients, payors and healthcare providers, inventory management, benefit investigations, prior authorizations, patient assistance, prescription delivery and distribution, and record-keeping of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances.
What you will do
- Provides assistance and performs technical pharmacy services under supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with established policies and procedures. •Packages and appropriately labels all dosage forms used in the pharmacy by using appropriate pharmacy packaging, counting and labeling equipment. •Documents medication orders. •Coordinates medication delivery and distribution. Maintains required prescription/medication and other department records. •Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain clinical competency as required to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and clinical services. •Maintain and service all pharmacy automated dispensing devices in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Prepares and fills prescriptions and medication orders, maintaining appropriate legal and departmental records •Reads physician’s prescribed medication orders specifying name, quantity, strength, frequency and method of administration of drugs and other pharmaceutical products. •Processes prescription orders in designated pharmacy workflow software following workflow standards and policies and procedures
- Operates computerized data systems. •Utilizes the pharmacy workflow system, clinical platform and the EMR to process prescription orders, document patient records, and maintain records required by law and accrediting agencies. •Maintains and updates records regarding the patient’s health, allergies, demographic and insurance information in the pharmacy system.
- Maintains a safe and orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the pharmacy and maintains a clean and neat work area. •Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner •Cleans and maintains all pharmacy related equipment. •Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
- Works effectively and serves as intermediary between patient, provider, and pharmacy; •Interacts and communicates in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. •Initiate patient intake process •Answers the phone in a professional and friendly manner •Refers any clinical questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to the pharmacist •Stay informed on currently availability of, and assisting patients with copayment assistance methods •Navigate insurance plans and accurately bill the appropriate insurance including coordination of benefits. •Assist with obtaining Prior Authorizations •Assist with the preparation and delivery of infusion orders •Perform monthly outbound patient calls to set up refills and coordinate delivery •Responds to customer/patient inquiries and issues timely
- Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment to minimize risk to patients and staff by complying with all safety/risk management policies and procedures. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
- Provides support to pharmacy and other ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation and supervision of students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
- Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday to provide continuous pharmacy coverage as required.
- Comply with all policies and procedures and in accordance with specialty pharmacy accreditation standards
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent education. Required
- PHRMTECH-R - Registered Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required
- Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of a Pharmacy Technician program Required or
- Minimum 1 year experience previous experience as Pharmacy Technician. Required and
- Experience in Specialty Pharmacy Preferred
