Position Summary
Assist general education teachers, special education teachers, and related service staff providers with maintaining effective instructional programs for students. Implements routines and supports under the direction of certified staff to assist with academic, physical, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Essential Functions

- Ensure the safety of students
- Maintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the district
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and proper government authority
- Assist students with physical and/or educational needs both individually and in small groups
- Collaborate with classroom teacher about students' needs and requirements including IEP or 504 goals and accommodations
- Assist students with classwork
- Assist with recess, supervision, restroom breaks, emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, etc.
- Provide assistance to classroom teacher, special education teacher, or related services
- Provide escort and mobility assistance to student(s) when necessary
- Provide self-care, toileting and feeding assistance to students as necessary
- Collect academic and behavioral data
- High school diploma
- Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
- Experience working with children or in a school setting
- Ability to follow student plans and directives from certified staff
- Effective, active listening skills
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Adaptable as assignment may change due to students moving in/out of the district or changing student support needs
- Ability to learn and utilize technology such as the Google Suite, Chrome Books, or other assistive supports
The paraprofessional must submit to a satisfactory
- CT Department of Children and Families background check.
- State and national criminal history record check. Documents must be submitted within 10 days of hire.
- This is a 10-month, exempt position.
