Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, RSU 23 is a 700 student, three-school district seeking a Part Time Bus Driver. The successful candidate should possess the following:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current and Valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check approval: https://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting
- At least 21 years of age.
- Holds current Class B, CDL Maine Driver License W/ School Bus driver endorsement.
- Physical examination by a licensed Doctor of Medicine within 60 days prior to the date of employment.
- Must submit to Drug and Alcohol history check for DOT regulated testing and not have addiction to the use of alcohol or narcotic drugs.
- Maintains a clean driving record necessary to maintain drivers license.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)
- Assumes personal responsibility for obeying all state and federal traffic laws and for compliance with the regulations of the Maine Association of Pupil Transportation governing the operation of school buses.
- Picks up and drops off students at authorized stops while adhering to strict time schedules Transports only authorized students.
- Conducts a daily pre/post exterior and interior safety check of bus and notifies maintenance of any mechanical issues.
- Maintains discipline when students are on bus. Enforces rules/regulations for student conduct and behavior while on school bus.
- Reports behavior problems to the appropriate Administrator.
- Reports all accidents immediately and completes required accident reports.
- Reports any moving violations to the Director of Transportation and Maintenance immediately.
- Cleans interior of bus daily and washes exterior as needed.
- Notifies proper authorities in the event of accident, mechanical failure or delays, maintains rider list for emergencies.
- Inspects bus after each run to ensure no students remain on bus.
- Refer all bus stop change requests to the Director of Transportation and Maintenance for approval.
- Exercises responsible leadership at all times.
- Displays the poise of a disciplined person; is tactful in dealing with others,; is resourceful and self reliant; demonstrates respect for self and others, accepts suggestions and follows instructions. Follows the proper channels of command and exercises confidentiality of privileged information relating to school and personal matters.
- Sets a good example in areas of personal hygiene, neatness and proper dress, courtesy, consideration and proper use of language. Vulgar or sexually suggestive language is not permitted at any time.
- Maintains communication with Director of Transportation regarding health and wellness issues that would hinder driving bus.
- Performs other tasks relevant to Transportation department as assigned by Director of Transportation and/or Transportation Supervisor from time to time.
