Regional School Unit 57
Title: Bus/Van Monitor
Qualifications:
Ability to work with others
Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students
Ability to read and write, to understand verbal instructions, and to communicate with fellow employees, students, and Director of Transportation
Attend driver training days and mandatory inservice meetings
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Job Goal:
1. To assist the bus driver in providing safe transportation for students by maintaining order on a school bus
or van by directly supporting individual children as needed
Performance Responsibilities:
Assists the driver in maintaining appropriate student conduct on the bus or van
Assists young or disabled students with getting on and off the bus or van; operates chair lift; assists students in crossing streets; assist with seat belts and harnesses where appropriate
Assures that students get on and off the bus or van in an orderly fashion
Assists driver with disciplinary problems
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift (ranging from 25-75 lbs depending on student size), bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.
Terms of Employment: Hourly, work year (176 days) and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
