Regional School Unit 57
Title: Van Driver
Qualifications:
High School diploma or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
Hold a valid State of Maine Operators License for a minimum of two years (required)
To communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, community, and school personnel
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Job Goal:
1. Safe operation, maintenance and routing of the assigned school van on a day-to-day basis.
Performance Responsibilities:
Safely operate school van on a daily basis
Check van before each operation for mechanical defects and report any defects utilizing daily inspection form
Clean assigned van inside daily and wash inside and outside monthly or sooner if appropriate
Discharge students only at authorized stops
Enforce rules governing student conduct on vans and utilize district’s formal discipline procedure when appropriate
Report any damage to the vehicle to Transportation Director
File accident report as necessary
Utilize safe driving practices in accordance with State law
Refer all requests from parents concerning transportation changes to the Director of Transportation
Assist in inter-school delivery of mail, and supplies
Ensure that the van is empty and secured whenever the van is unattended. Periodically check the van for security
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift (ranging from 25-75 lbs depending on student size), bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.
Terms of Employment: Hourly, work year (176 days) and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
