This position is responsible for the management of the Commuter Rail Operations Control Center and the Commuter Rail System. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules of the RTD / FRA Drug and Alcohol Policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Controls and directs the safe movement of trains as scheduled, authorizing occupancy of the main track and sidings for train operations, track inspection and other maintenance personnel on and along the right-of-way and evaluates unusual conditions and situations and determines when to remove or restore overhead power and set up alternate routes.
- Monitors service intervals and schedules to determine efficiency of service and makes recommendations for adjustments to improve service and schedules routing and movement of trains to provide for safe, timely meets, to protect maintenance activities on controlled tracks.
- Manages unplanned or emergency events to protect the safety of the public, railroad employees and railroad property and performs testing and data input for increased usage and placement of Positive Train Control.
- Informs connecting / adjoining territories of any movement for which they are concerned, communicates bulletins and warrants to train personnel and maintenance of way personnel.
- Monitors CCTV and manages passenger information systems on-board the trains and at the stations to convey train and track information.
- Controls and monitors the status of the traction power system, controlling wayside devices via the Traction Power Management System (TPMS).
- Coordinates with Bus Operations to establish bus bridges and advises appropriate departments, the general public, and outside agencies of disruptions in service due to accidents, incidents, and / or adverse weather conditions.
- Maintains records, in current software applications, of train movements, track assignments, maintenance activities, and equipment and infrastructure defects, Handles a variety of administrative tasks related to Hours of Service requirements, hazardous materials, rule violations and other reports.
- Contacts the Federal Railroad Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, Accident Investigation Team (AIT) for accidents and emergencies, and coordinates with internal staff, police, fire departments and other government agencies in emergency situations.
- Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
