What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Attendant position at Regions Hospital?
Join our team at Regions Hospital as Animal Care Technician. This position offers opportunity for a candidate seeking entry level experience after earning or currently engaged in earning, specialty certificates in laboratory animal science or obtaining animal science degree, or CVT/RVT.
This position is responsible for:
- Providing care to research animals such as ensuring clean bedding, fresh water, food, enrichment and cleanliness of animals is maintained.
- Perform husbandry duties and facility maintenance such as cleaning floors, sinks, walls, and animal rooms as necessary.
- Provides assistance to the attending veterinarian, facility supervisor and other staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Location:
Small vivarium located in St Paul Neuroscience Center.
It is essential, that the applicant have reliable transportation, be able to fulfill agreed upon scheduled shifts, be organized, have above average problem-solving skills, be attentive to detail, and function independently.
Applicants experience desired:
Familiarity with the basic science research environment/lab, be able to interact and take direction from investigators and veterinary staff as a necessary part of medical team. Be familiar with animal welfare and care operations as it relates to science, local and federal regulations.
Physical requirements include:
Must be able to lift 50lbs without restriction, be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, safely handle/manipulate bulky large equipment, be able to use chemicals and disinfection compounds in a safe manner and gently handle fragile animals with care and kindness.
Advancement is dependent on education completed, experience related to the animal science field and performance in the position being considered above.

Work schedule: Part time-on call, weekends and holidays with opportunity for weekday hours on an as needed, or project-to-project basis.
Required Qualifications:
Education: HS Diploma/GED
Experience: Minimum of three months in a research environment or one year in a veterinary clinic or other animal care position preferred.
