What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Assistant position at Regions Hospital?
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Service Line Supervisor and Director of Surgical Services, the Surgical Assistant is responsible for the proper handling and sterilization of instruments and equipment to render them safe for handling and use. Also monitors, stocks, and fills supplies, assists with the cleaning of the department, transports patients, supplies and specimens, and assists with other duties as assigned. Requires knowledge and/or training in aseptic technique. The Surgical Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform transport and transfer, based on physical, psychosocial, safety and related criteria appropriate to the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School degree or equivalent, preferred. Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant/health care assistant training program, preferred.
Experience: None required – 6 months experience in a health care setting preferred.
