What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Care Assistant position at Regions Hospital?
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager, the Nursing Assistant/Surgical Care Assistant helps prepare patients for surgery and assists them after surgery. The surgical care assistant will aide in the nursing care of newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients including the following tasks:
- Perform activities such as bathing, re-positioning, and assisting with transports daily
- Help patients to the bathroom
- Room patients when they arrive for surgery and on discharge to home, transports patients to their car
- Wipe down equipment and carts, sets up rooms for next patient and wipes down surgical carts after each use
- Collect patient data including vital signs and weights
- Perform glucose testing as needed
- Restock area with supplies
Required Qualifications:
BLS certification AND completion of a nursing assistant program
OR
Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE)
OR
Completion of one clinical rotation in an RN or LPN program within one year
OR
Experience as an Emergency Room Technician (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE)
Please note: experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five years
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months experience in a health care setting
- Hospital experience strongly desired
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate
