What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Specialist position at Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. (RSS)?
RSS is currently seeking a part-time Peer Specialist to join our newly launched Safe Options Support (SOS) team.As an integral part of our SOS team, you will be providing comprehensive care to homeless individuals. You will engage and outreach to participants in various settings, assess their health and social needs, and participate in hospital discharge planning meetings. In addition, you will collaborate with participants and housing providers, assist with appointment navigation, and monitor and evaluate their progress. Your role will also involve building relationships with community providers and advocating for participants when faced with discrimination or healthcare inequities.
To be successful in this role, you should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference given to those who are New York State Certified Peer Specialists. Experience in peer advocacy and working with mentally ill and/or homeless individuals is required, with preference given to candidates with experience in behavioral health, substance services, or homeless services. Knowledge of homeless resources, counseling principles and methods, and treatment and rehabilitation programs is also preferred. Strong report preparation skills and proficiency in computer usage and documentation are a must.
This position will require periodic on-call coverage and flexibility. You will have an office in Oneonta, and travel throughout Chenango, Broome, and Otsego counties will be necessary as you engage with participants and build relationships with community providers. On-the-job training will be provided, and you will have the opportunity to attend team meetings and supervisory sessions to enhance your professional development.
