Reid Park Zoological Society is seeking seasonal temporary part-time educators to instruct the Zoo’s summer camp. Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, education or related field preferred but not required. Experience working with children is required. Strong presentation and communication skills are required. This position is open until filled. Applicants must be available 7:30am-4:45pm, Monday-Friday weekly from June – July 2025. Mandatory training will take place during the last week of May 2025. This position is a temporary position with an end date of August 1, 2025.

We provide educational and fun experiences for visitors of all ages. Reid Park Zoo is the largest attended cultural attraction in Southern Arizona with approximately 500,000 visitors annually. Overview:
Responsible for set-up, instruction, and clean-up for a variety of educational programs for all ages. This is a position with varying weekly hours that are based on program coverage needs.
Reports To: Director of Education and Conservation
Responsibilities:
- Instructs the Zoo’s summer camp
- May accesses behind-the-scenes areas of the Zoo
- Handles live education animal ambassadors
- Follows Zoo safety protocols and procedures
- Provides excellent guest service during programs
- Communicates clearly with supervisors before and after programs.
- Promotes Reid Park Zoo’s mission and key education and conservation goals.
- May assists at special events if schedule allows.
- Completes training as required. These may include but are not limited to animal handling, safety, CPR/ First Aid, DEI and zoonotic disease training.
- Be able to perform those tasks that are essential to the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Any other reasonable duty as requested
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Education requirements
- Bachelor's degree (earned or working towards) in the biological sciences, education, or related field preferred but not required
Experience requirements
- Teaching experience for elementary or middle school age children OR summer camp counselor OR docent experience in an educational setting OR other experience working with children
- Basic understanding of a zoo’s role in protecting wildlife and encouraging conservation
- An understanding of biological sciences is required
Other requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather (especially summer) and varying temperatures
- Ability to perform light physical tasks such as lifting tables and chairs (25lbs)
- Strong communication & presentation skills
- Be available to work Mon-Fri during the day through June-July 2024
- Valid driver’s license required
