A Brief Overview
The Director of Medical Underwriting leads and manage activities using expert-level of marketing and underwriting risk assessment skills and experience; evaluate and classify group reinsurance risks/cases. Develop and manage client relationships to ensure client's needs are met while ensuring profitable underwriting decisions in accordance with RGA's pricing and underwriting guidelines. Recommend and participate in the development and implementation of process improvements that may extend beyond the area of oversight. Manage people or key processes in a lead role.

$101,685.00 - $151,435.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. What You Will Do
- Lead evaluation of risk and underwrites for group reinsurance products. Analyze data, evaluate characteristics of reinsurance arrangements, apply relevant experience, consider use of manual rates. Ensure that RGA can administer the client’s proposed reinsurance. Develop and maintain relationships with clients, and provide service.
- Direct and manage underwriting tools, processes, and services. Serves as lead facultative provider and expert. May, but not necessary, manage people.
- Oversee and manage key and/or complex accounts and or products.
- Contribute to Group Re profitability by analyzing/assessing assigned client profitability through experience and expense analysis and attention to assigned account performance.
- Conduct UW value added services for assigned and other accounts.
- Represent industry presence at meetings, publish and present topics, develop services and as assigned lead services.
- Participate, as a subject matter expert, leader or team member, in special projects, committees, meetings and client presentations, as required.
- Facilitate and/or conduct audits and facultative underwriting, with approval authority on facultative cases.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent related work experience Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) BS/BA Science or Business Preferred
- 7 Years of group reinsurance underwriting experience or 9 years direct underwriting experience Required
- 4 Years marketing experience Required
- Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions Required
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received Required
- Highly advanced level of investigative, analytical and problem solving skills utilizing experience, research, guidelines and internal resources. Required
- Ability to work well within a team environment, participate in department/team projects and balance detail with departmental objectives Required
- Advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility Required
- Advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines Required
- Advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions Required
- Advanced level of skills in customer relationship management and change management Required
- Ability to resolve conflict and foster teamwork Required
- Advance knowledge of broad business practices Required
- Advanced ability to comprehend and interpret insurance and contract documents Required
- ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU, or CLU accreditation or progress towards accreditation Preferred
