Job Summary:
The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the school, ensuring fiscal integrity, accuracy in accounting, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role provides leadership and supervision for the Accounting Manager and Accounting Assistant, directing financial reporting, budgeting, and auditing processes. The Accounting Director works closely with school leadership to maintain sound financial practices aligned with the mission and values of the school.
Qualifications:
Must be a committed Christian and demonstrate a Christ-centered lifestyle.
Member of a local church in good standing.
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
Extensive experience in accounting, with at least five years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Strong understanding of nonprofit or educational financial management.
Proficiency in accounting software, financial reporting, and budget management.
Experience with Abila accounting programs preferred.
Knowledge of FACTS Tuition and FACTS SIS is highly desirable.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Essential Functions:
Financial Oversight and Reporting:
Provide strategic financial leadership and oversight of the school’s accounting operations.
Supervise and support the Accounting Manager and Accounting Assistant in daily financial tasks.
Ensure timely preparation and review of monthly and annual financial statements.
Oversee monthly and year-end closing processes.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and best practices.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Lead the school’s budgeting process in collaboration with the Head of Finance and Operations.
Provide monthly budget reports and financial analysis to department heads and administration.
Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Audit and Compliance:
Coordinate and oversee annual financial audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Maintain accurate records and internal controls to protect school assets.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
Accounts Payable, Receivable, and Tuition Management:
Supervise the processing of accounts payable and receivable.
Oversee tuition collection processes, collaborating with FACTS Tuition and SIS systems.
Ensure proper reconciliation of financial accounts and bank statements.
Assist in reviewing and improving financial workflows and systems.
Physical and Safety Requirements:
This is a safety-sensitive position, and employees may be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
Ability to sit for extended periods while working on financial reports and data entry.
Use of manual dexterity for handling financial documents and using accounting software.
Clear verbal communication and auditory abilities for financial discussions and meetings.
Visual acuity to review and analyze financial reports and documentation.
