The Relationship Center seeks an enthusiastic, reliable, and clinically savvy psychotherapist to join our team.
We are an irreverent yet professional team of six women, two men, one nonbinary person, and one mini golden doodle passionate about helping shy introverts build meaningful relationships.
One of our specialties is helping couples on the brink of breaking up rediscover what made them fall in love in the first place. Our sub-specialty couples services include queer couples therapy, premarital counseling, and neurodiverse couples therapy.
Aside from our couples services, we’re best known for our specialty clinic, Bay Area Dating Coach, where we help singles build the confidence and skills needed to find love. In addition to dating coaching and therapy, we provide innovative services such as mock dates and online dating help.
At our second specialty clinic, the Social Anxiety Support Center, we help shy introverts overcome anxiety so that they can finally enjoy the companionship they crave.
Our clinics emphasize experiential approaches such as role-playing, drama therapy, coaching, CBT/DBT, fieldwork, and EMDR.
Thanks to the Bay Area’s hearty supply of growth-oriented couples, anxious singles, and highly sensitive introverts, our practice has grown steadily since its establishment in 2016. We anticipate continued growth in the years to come, especially as people navigate socializing, dating, and partnership post-pandemic.
Which is where you come in!
GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS
Since this is possibly the gazillionth job posting you’ve looked at today, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty, shall we?
While we generally subscribe to savoring the good, we’re gonna start with the bad news so that we don’t waste your time :)
THE BAD(ISH) NEWS
- You’ll need another part-time job (or a trust fund), at least to start. This position is part-time to begin, and your caseload (and thus pay) will build and vary over time. Many of our teammates have “day jobs” and find the variety provided by multiple workplaces invigorating. As our clients and business thrive on consistency, we seek a team member who can remain dependable and engaged while working multiple jobs. If, after working up to your minimum caseload, you determine that you’d love to work with us full-time, we may offer you a full-time position with benefits, including health and dental insurance and two weeks of paid time off (in addition to the existing PT benefits: a Simple IRA with a 3% match, a continuing education stipend, sick pay, and up to 6 weeks of unpaid time off).
- Team time is mainly remote and asynchronous. Your connections with fellow team members will primarily occur over platforms like Slack and Zoom. We have optional, casual in-person gatherings about once a quarter and monthly in-person consultation groups for our licensed clinicians; however, you should be prepared to build connections via online platforms.
- Along those lines, we love technology! You’re an excellent fit for us if learning and utilizing online platforms (e.g., SimplePractice, Slack, Spruce, etc.) excites you. Oh, and we’re paperless! If technology is your Achilles heel, we’re not the right place for you.
- You are going to have uncomfortable conversations with clients. To help our clients achieve their goals, we gently challenge them to explore topics they otherwise might avoid. Think sex, body image, identity, trauma, societal isms, etc. In addition to openly discussing these and other taboo topics, you’ll need to regularly check in with clients about the therapeutic relationship and container, including and especially erotic transference, money, and container-related reenactments (e.g., canceling or arriving late to sessions as an expression of anxiety-based avoidance). If that’s your jam and a challenge excites you, read on!
THE GOOD NEWS
- We offer benefits: Part-time benefits include a SIMPLE IRA with a 3% match, a continuing education stipend, sick pay, and up to 6 weeks of unpaid time off per year. Full-time benefits are available with a caseload of at least 20 weekly session slots and include all of the aforementioned plus health insurance, dental insurance, and two weeks of paid time off.
- You don’t have to see a bazillion clients. You’ll offer a minimum of 10 weekly slots. If you work up to a full-time, benefited position, you’ll offer at least 20 weekly slots. You’re welcome to work more than the minimum required for either part-time or full-time. Our clinicians say they love that we don’t require them to see 3,000 weekly clients (which is expected at mega behavioral health conglomerates, but we won’t name names). We, like you, are highly sensitive and value people-centered workplaces that support clinician and client well-being in tandem.
- You’ll have a nice balance of team-ness and independence. Our clinicians say this position is “the best combination of being a solo practitioner with all the support and collegiality of a team.”
- We’re anything but boring. If variety is the spice of life, this position is delicious! You will enjoy offering various services, including dating coaching (training provided), therapy, fieldwork, online dating help, and mock dates. Our clients hold many identities, so you’ll also benefit from working with people from all walks of life.
- We’ll take care of running the business so that you can focus on your clients. No need to fuss with marketing, admin, etc., or deal with the stress of running your own business!
- We love drama therapy and other experiential approaches. You're our people if you’re trained in a niche, action-oriented approach! Our clients respond well to solution-focused, creative, experiential methods, and we’re always eager to add team members who can diversify our offerings.
- We help shy singles find and keep love! Need we say more?
- We help anxious introverts build courageously authentic lives! Need we say more?
- Our culture is fun, friendly, professional, supportive, casual, open, non-judgmental, boundaried, respectful, irreverent, grounded, and silly.
- Your supervisor will super care about you. Team members feel “very supported, cared for, and seen” by our executive team. Your supervisor will play to your strengths and walk the talk of secure attachment by striving to be understanding, flexible, and highly responsive.
- Our team is pretty rad. We celebrate one another’s successes and lend a hand professionally and personally where needed. Our clinical team has 100 years of cumulative experience in the field, so you’ll have lots of wisdom to tap into when your clinical work gets sticky. Plus, we genuinely like one another!
