Job Summary :
The Junior Carpenter works closely with Journeymen and Master Carpenters daily. The Junior Carpenter is expected to have one to three years of job site and carpentry experience using basic hand tools and a willingness to learn and expand skills and knowledge in carpentry. Must possess basic hand tools and be willing to continue to build a toolbox. This position requires a willingness to assist Construction Field Support staff, when necessary.
Primary Duties :
Responsible for assisting Carpenters in all aspects of construction.
Responsible for measuring and cutting sheathing for Carpenters.
Assists with installing siding, clapboards, cedar shakes, etc.
Responsible for passing knowledge to other team members and willing to assist in all tasks.
Follows Relax & Company's quality standards throughout the entire building process.
Check and maintain Relax & Company equipment.
Ensures a safe and hazard-free work environment per Company safety standards.
Assists Carpenters by holding and securing lumber used in the build process; ensures lumber is level or plumb during installation.
Based on project schedule deadline needs, some occasional weekend or overtime work may be necessary.
Relax & Company has the opportunity to be part of a a rotating schedule, sometimes including on-call, evenings, and weekends for additional compensation.
Secondary Duties :
Assists with building forms for pouring concrete.
Assists with preparing job sites by transporting needed tools and equipment from the storage facility.
Assist with loading and unloading building materials to be used on construction projects.
Part of the team to build and disassemble scaffolding, bracing, and other temporary structures used on construction sites.
Assists with removing debris and possible hazards to keep construction sites clean and safe.
May dig trenches and holes needed in construction projects.
Skills :
Ability to follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and carpenters.
Basic knowledge of carpentry and construction techniques and procedures.
Ability to perform basic math.
Basic knowledge of carpentry and construction techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn company software including Slack, Google Calendars / Docs / Sheets, and Builder Trend.
Basic understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively.
Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
Must be adaptable to changes on job sites.
Education / Experience :
High School diploma or equivalent desired.
1 to 3 years of carpentry experience, is necessary. This position progresses toward becoming a Carpenter Journeyman I.
Must be at least 18 years old.
On-the-job training offered.
OSHA 10 certification is desired
Physical Requirements :
Mechanical skills to use equipment and basic hand tools and power tools, regularly.
Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather.
Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
Physical strength when performing heavy labor is required. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
Competencies :
Complete knowledge of the Construction Field Support staff duties by either working in the position previously with Harbor & Hearth or in a similar position at another company.
With fair accuracy (few mistakes) can measure and cut various materials.
Beginning to measure, cut, and install baseboards and casing.
Correctly cut framing and sheathing for Journemay.
Beginning to develop an understanding of the principles of house framing.
With accuracy installs siding, clapboards, cedar shakes, etc.
