Job Summary: The Diesel & Auto Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Diesel & Auto Mechanic will also contribute to maintaining a safe and organized work environment while upholding Relax & Company's values of being humble, hungry, and smart. This position operates independently and does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Primary Duties:
- Maintain the company fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, and other motor vehicles.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
- Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Plan and establish a timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Visit job sites to inspect vehicles.
- Test drives vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Maintain detailed service records and documentation for repairs performed.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely repairs.
Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair, including diesel engines, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of related experience required.
Licenses & Certificates:
- Must hold a valid driver’s license, CDL a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- Must safely lift and maneuver 50 pounds independently, with assistance required for weights exceeding this limit.
