Job Summary:
The Carpenter Journeyman II is responsible for assisting in all aspects of carpentry from frame to finish including an always-growing understanding of all trades involved in the building process. The Carpenter Journeyman II is expected to carry out building-related tasks in an independent nature and is expected to assist in the training and mentoring of junior members of the carpentry crew. This position is expected to carry out most carpentry jobs independently, possibly stepping in for the Master Carpenter when not on site. The Carpenter Journeyman II is expected to have at least 5 years of carpentry experience. The Carpenter Journeyman II must equip themselves with their own tools for the job.
Primary Duties:
Assists in reading blueprints and designs to work to specifications prepared by other construction professionals, architects, and building code recommendations.
May assist the team with keeping track of project timelines.
Consistently communicates job, labor, and training needs to the designated site foreman or Project Manager.
Responsible for passing knowledge to other team members and is willing to assist as needed in all tasks.
Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
Follows Harbor & Hearth’s quality standard throughout the entire building process.
Install wooden structures such as rafters, partitions, joists, and stud work.
Interior & exterior trim, installing cabinets, shelving, built-in furniture, drywall, and insulation.
Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges, and closures.
Check and maintain Relax & Company equipment.
Load and unload materials and supplies.
Communicate materials needed to the designated site foreman or Project Manager.
Willingness to work occasional on-call evenings and weekends.
Utilize work order and purchase order processes as outlined by Relax & Company protocols.
Based on project schedule deadline needs, some occasional weekend or overtime work may be necessary.
Relax & Company has the opportunity to be part of a a rotating schedule, sometimes including on-call, evenings, and weekends for additional compensation.
Skills:
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Highly advanced knowledge of carpentry and construction techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn company software including Slack, Google Calendars/Docs/Sheets, and BuilderTrend.
Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively.
Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
The ability to do basic to advanced math is necessary.
Must be adaptable and a strong problem solver.
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
5 to 8 years of carpentry experience, is necessary. This position progresses toward becoming a Master Carpenter and requires less oversight.
Must have experience using hand and power tools such as drills, chisels, sanders, saws, and nail guns.
OSHA 10 certification is desired
Physical Requirements:
Mechanical skills to use heavy machinery, equipment, hand tools, and power tools that are used regularly.
Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather.
Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
Physical strength when performing heavy labor is required. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
Must have manual dexterity, good balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
Competencies:
Complete knowledge of the Carpenter Journeyman I duties and competencies by either working in the position previously with Harbor & Hearth or in a similar position at another company.
Must be well-versed in all aspects of carpentry from frame to finish. Including working knowledge of layout and framing.
Must be able to read blueprints with confidence.
Have a full understanding and can execute framing.
Working knowledge of roofing, concrete, and drywall.
Comprehensive knowledge of the order of operations and can anticipate the next steps in the construction process.
Able to handle all aspects of construction at a high level of production pace. Includes setting the pace for motiving crews.
